2014 Christmas in the City
On Sunday, December 21, 2014 volunteers from Massachusetts HOBY were out in force at Christmas in the City. Christmas in the City is a non-profit organization that gives families, who live in homeless shelters throughout Boston, a Christmas that they may have never otherwise experienced. MA HOBY volunteers were assigned to tables that serviced the FamilyAid Boston. FamilyAid Boston had a total of 304 guests, 207 of those guests were children. There was a total of 61 MA HOBY volunteers equating to approximately four hundred and seventy hours of service. Additionally, there were numerous volunteers who showed up the day before to organize all of the gifts by age and gender to ensure that on Sunday would run smoothly. One of the biggest highlights of the day was the smiles that plastered the faces of the children in attendance; they were in awe of the carnival that had been put together specifically for them. The sheer elation of each kid was evident as they opened up their presents. Even though it is a lot of work, it is totally worth it to see the children's enjoyment of the day. This event truly reflects the spirit of the holiday. I think that is why so many MA HOBY volunteers want to comeback every year to this service event.
“As always, Christmas in the City was thrilled to have HOBY participate in our annual holiday party for Boston’s homeless children this year. Their work ethic and dedication to helping us make this an outstanding memory for kids in need is limitless. I look forward to Andres' email every year and look forward to their continued support," said Nancy MacDonald from Christmas in the City.
