2014 Walk for Diabetes

On Saturday, October 18, 2014, MA HOBY volunteers were out in force to assist the American Diabetes Association in “Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes.” The walk was held in the Boston Public Gardens. This walk is the primary fundraising event for the American Diabetes Association and is held in numerous cities across the US. There are over 26 million people in the US who are afflicted with diabetes. This incredible event has been taking place for more than 20 years.

We had a great day to be on Boston Common to assist the event organizers. At the walk there were 27 volunteers who gave a total of 189 hours of service. When the MA HOBY volunteers arrived they were distributed between three tents, the Elite, the Champion and the Red Strider. The event was a huge success as walkers raised just under $435,000 in this one day event. Thank you for all the hard work provided by the MA HOBY volunteers. It was a great event and a lot of fun to see everyone. Rachel Feinberg from the Diabetes Foundation stated “Thank you so much for the help on Saturday! I have heard nothing but rave reviews from the staff about their volunteers from your group! I knew I could count on your group to be terrific, but I just wanted to express how much we appreciated having strong volunteers!”
