2018 - SOMA Winter Games

On March 10, MA HOBY volunteered alongside the Maynard HS National Honor Society at the Special Olympics Winter games and Olympic Town. We helped with the basketball games held at Clark University in Worcester. Our volunteers kept the score and time, recorded the shots on the team sheet and announced the games. The games were exciting and competitive. The athletes played hard and did their best. They displayed excellent sportsmanship and were appreciative of all who helped. Tim McKay, who was the volunteer in charge of the venue, thanked our volunteers and said that the games could not have been held without the MA HOBY volunteers.
Athletes came to Olympic Town after a full day of competing to enjoy carnival-style games, prizes, vendors, and dancing. Volunteers enthusiastically greeted athletes as they entered Mechanics Hall and handed out red noses to spread the event’s “Under the Big Top” theme. Throughout the night, volunteers helped out with face painting, danced with athletes, and enjoyed hanging out with vendors like BVT Robotics and three adorable therapy dogs. Athletes and volunteers had a blast, and the event was a huge success thanks to everyone’s positive attitudes and spirit! It was a fun and rewarding day for all!
