2016 - Special Olympics Summer Games
MA HOBY helped at the Special Olympics Tournament of Champions on August 27 and 28. These games were moved this year from western MA to the Marlborough area. This was a big move made to centralize the games so that more athletes could participate and so that the Marlborough community could be more engaged in the Special Olympics programs where their headquarters are located. The new venues and offerings were a big success! Over 60 MA HOBY volunteers ran all 10 of the bocce courts set up in the ForeKicks building and the two softball fields associated with ForeKicks. Plus, MA HOBY volunteers with the Lions Club of Ashland ran the Olympic Town and helped with the activities held at Olympic Village. These activities ran from 8:00am to 9:00pm on Saturday and 8:00am to 4:00pm on Sunday. The volunteers loved working with the athletes many of whom have become friends over the years of helping at the games. Jen Dowdy from Special Olympics said “Thank you again for all of your hard work and attention to detail. You and HOBY were instrumental to the success of Tournament of Champions and your feedback will help with planning for next year!” We are looking forward to continuing our partnership with Special Olympics!
