2017 - Christmas in the City
MA HOBY alumni and staff volunteered with Christmas in the City (CITC) the weekend of Dec. 16th-17th. This is the 7th year in a row that MA HOBY has volunteered with CITC, which started 28 years ago as a humble party for one shelter, held in a conference room in Boston’s Government Center.
In 2017 – their 29th party – they hosted 3633 children (5821 total guests) picked up by 158 buses at 79 sites from in and around Boston. MA HOBY was in charge of one shelter with 338 guests and was responsible for gifts, food, and making sure the guests had an amazing time during the party.
Nancy MacDonald, one of the organizers of Christmas in the City had the following to say about all the volunteers that day:
"It is truly my honor to work with such a dedicated group of volunteers that overlook all the chaos to create such a special event full of individual kindnesses and special connections. I can’t stress enough – you are truly the magic behind the magic and none of this could happen without you."
